We decided to take a zero in Manchester today. We needed to get to the town in order to finish resuppling. We were absolutely not staying in the Red Sled Motel again so we found another place called the Toll Road Inn. It was 800 ft from Red Sled, so an easy walk. This place was so much better! It was $128 for the double bed room for the night. It was a good experience with a spacious and clean room, hot tub, pool, directv, wifi, refrigerator, hair dryer, good toiletries, breakfast included, and the staff was super friendly! I would recommend it and urge the Green Mountain Club to put them in the guide. The fee would be less for solo hikers.
After unpacking we headed into Manchester. The road has heavy traffic which is scary but we had to hike it. We found the laundromat, which was about 3 miles from the Inn. It was a nice set up. They have a hiker changing area and the machines took cards! Very convenient! We met up with Gunho there! We then found Eastern Mountain Sports (EMS) to buy fuel. We were able to get a big container for $10! They were sold out of the Sawyer bags unfortunately. Price Chopper was next to EMS, so we were able to find a role of toilet paper. I never knew they sold single roles until today! Ha ha ha! That is where we caught up with OD and Baby Chicken! It was a good reunion. Tiny Turtle was so excited to see them!
We found the post office on the other side of town, which the people were very friendly. It was fun to get our package we mailed of all our food and items. I guess I should say it was a relief to see it arrived safely!
On the walk home we stopped at the Double Hex Restaurant, which was delicious! The staff was family/hiker friendly. The service was great. The price was reasonable. And the atmosphere was welcoming. Bo Bonzi had to try the Long Trail Ale. He loved it!
It was great to get back to the inn to relax in the hot tub. The kids played in the pool and had such a great time. We are looking forward to a good nights sleep before continuing the journey!
